Services & Sermons

Sunday Morning Services: 10:00 AM – Worship service –  The service will begin with a welcome and a chalice lighting –the flaming chalice is a symbol of hope and Unitarian Universalism worldwide.  There will be plenty of music, an important part of our worship. Children and adults begin the service together; the children collect donations of personal care items and pantry food for our neighbors who use The Haven’s food pantry, then proceed to their religious education activities.  There will be opportunities to share joys and concerns; either the minister or a guest speaker will give a sermon, or individuals will share thoughts or poetry worthy of contemplation. The service will end with announcements, including an option for newcomers to introduce themselves.

Special Ceremonies and Services:

Christmas Eve:  On December 24th, we hold a joyful 4:30 PM pageant service appropriate for children of all ages with carols and donkey ears.  All angels, shepherds, and pajama-clad little animals are welcome – in addition to mundane community members!  Our peaceful  6:00 PM candlelight service includes readings from the gospel, sacred carols, and a candlelight blessing and prayer for peace.

Child Dedications: A simple ceremony to welcome children of any age into the world affirms the responsibilities of parents and the church community.  We usually hold these rituals during Sunday Morning Services and parents should contact the minister or religious educator to arrange for this celebration.  We regularly celebrate other life-marks such as First Chalice (around age eight), Coming of Age (around fourteen), Bridging (high school graduation), and college graduation as part of our religious education program.

Weddings:  Unitarian Universalists affirm the right of all persons to enjoy the dignity, rights, and blessing of marriage, and have done so for decades.  Contact the minister to discuss her availability to help you celebrate your love.

Funerals and Memorial Services: We grieve together, we give thanks together, we celebrate the lives of those we’ve lost together.  Contact the minister to arrange for your family’s observance of life and passing.
